Valley of Death a book about the Campaignbyf French Union Forces to hold a Base Areo-Terrestre (Air Land Base) at Dien Bein Phu in northwest Vietnam in late 1953-early 1954 should interest readers interested in the Alamo story.
If you are one that is interested in intimate details of the battles that raged around the vaious strongpoints you will be disappointed. Go to the Bernard Fall classic "Hell in A Very Small Place" or Martin Windrow's "Into The Valley" for these details.
On the other hand if you are interested in the behind the scenes political fights and skirmishes that raged on both sides of the Atlantic about what to do about the impending defeat of French Union Forces in include the proposal for the entry of American Ground Forces, Air Cover provided by american aircraft carriers and even a suggestion that got well into the planning states concerning the use of nuclear weapons then this is the book for you.
The book serves as a primer for further study, and while I mentioned that the combat narratives are a little thin they give you the flavor of the action without all of the intricate detail.
All in all it is worth the $35 Dollar pricetag and I believe it will become a valuable addition to your library
