Mark: I was also able to preorder a copy for $32.97. I looked through the book that Amazon has posted and it looks awesome. I can’t wait to see the book in all its glory. Hopefully, I’ll be able to have you inscribe it someday.

Right now, Amazon's offering a bonus of an extra 5 percent off all pre-order books; nice chance to save an extra $1.65 on Mark's book, or an extra buck on Gregg Dimmick's forthcoming General Filisola's Analysis of Jose Urrea's Military Diary.

I just preordered you're doggone book, Mark. ;D The samples are fantastic. With it shipping on February 29, I hope I get it in time for your signing at the Symposium on March 8. Actually, I must get it by the 6th., since I'll be going to San Antonio on the 7th. for Joan's wingding.

If you don't receive it by the 6th, I recommend you purchase some inexpensive "book plates" which can be peeled off and applied to the book's title page, or some other appropriate place. Take one with you to San Antonio, and I'll sign it there. You can then just apply it to your book when it arrives. Mark

I called Barnes & Noble yesterday, according to them, Feb 29th remains the official publication date.
They are still taking pre orders, shipped to you NLT the 29th, will cost you thirty some dollars (minus your Barnes & Noble Membership if you have one) plus free shipping.
You can also order it and pick it up in the store on the 29th for $49 (minus your member discount). Checking with my local store they've not ordered any yet for general sale - so preordering it here or on Amazon, or getting it directly from Mark in SA seem to be the only options - right now.

Thanks for that info Wolf...I didn't even know that about when exactly the book was being released to stores. By the way, I will have some additional "inserts" in San Antonio for those of you who want them. They are essentially drawings from my next book, but when inserted in the appendices section of this one, give a more complete package of data on the Alamo. They are, for instance, interior views of the porteria (gateway through the long barracks) and interiors of the ruined second floor convento room, the granary, and second floor hospital. Also, I recently completed a detailed schematic plan view of the southwest corner, showing spatial relations of the various structures there. For the walking tour (tenatively on the 7th), I have prepared about 15 packets of drawings to hand out, (hopefully there'll not be more folks than that on the tour) which will serve both to illustrate my points as we walk around, as well as to keep for later study. I ordered my copy from Amazon.com and they're still showing a ship date to me of 3 March -- not much chance of having it in time to take with me to San Antonio since I'm leaving here on the 4th.

At the risk of appearing to shamelessly promote my own project, those of you who will not receive your book (ordered through Amazon, at a wholesale price) by the High Holy Days, may want to consider buying an extra (signed)copy in San Antonio. I know you're probably rolling your eyes at this, but let me explain: I personally have, I think at least 4 copies of Nelson's book (the darned thing keeps splitting at the binding!) One of those copies (hardbound)I keep as "clean" copy. The others, I use them as reference, or "working" copies, and as they self-destruct, I go to the next one. In the case of my book, that won't be necessary, as the book is a well-bound hardback, with dust jacket. But I'm sure that those of you who are very serious into the subject will want to frequently refer to your copy, and it may, over time, get somewhat ragged or worn. Hence, the idea to keep your signed copy as a "clean" copy, and the "cheaper" Amazon copy as your reference source. In any event, I'll be very happy and honored if you find the book enough to your liking to buy only one! Mark

I have several books myself in duplicate for that very reason, and while I wish Mark every success and hope that he seels a ridiculous amount of copies, the fact of the matter is that its a very specialised one and I've a pretty shrewd suspicion that in about 5 years time it will only be available through dealers at very silly prices; and when your current copy starts to wear out you're going to be real glad of that spare one squirrelled away.

I'm in the same boat, Jim. I checked with amazon this morning and my order isn't due to be shipped 'til the 29th. I don't leave for San Antonio until the 5th...so there's still a chance I'll receive it before I depart. If not, Marks suggestion is a wise option.
