I've never seen or heard of the funeral pyre placard that is your 12th photo. Where is it located? Is it Commerce Street funeral pyre site? Or one of the later re-burial sites elsewhere? Or both? Needless to say, I'm elated to see the reference to the family of "Green B. Jemision." Based on the unique spelling of the name, I'm confident the placard refers to the line of my family that settled in Jefferson, Marion County, Texas, including my gggg-grandmother.

It is located on Commerce; there is a second plaque near it that explains the marker and the people who are to thank for its being placed there and preserved, including Adina de Zavala. Here are pictures I took of each around Christmas, 2006:

Thanks Allen for jumping in and adding the second marker. I was unaware of the site until recently and made it it a point to locate it this past weekend. Unless you're looking for it, you won't find it. Commerce Street is a long street -- the markers are side-by-side street-level on the bridge opposite the RiverCenter Mall.

Paul, I only found out about these markers because Jim gave me a heads-up before my first visit in more than 45 years, along with suggestions of several other places worth seeing at or near the Alamo. We now have the suggested tour posted here. Seeing these things really makes a visit to San Antionio more special. I'm glad you enjoyed your HHD visit so much and obviously got a lot out of it!

Many thanks, Paul and Allen. This marker gives me a new rabbit trail to run down. ;-)
