Sounds more like your garden variety nut case, rather than a terrorist.

I agree Stack was a real legoon (legume), but he was a home-grown terrorist non the less. He wasn't just some lunatic striking out at his friends and family, he had a violent agenda. He hated the IRS and the guvnment, so he wrote his manivesto, burned down his nice home, then attempted mass murder in one of the most flamboyant ways possible. With the terrible 911 spectacle fresh in our collective memory this pathetic plane attack on civilian workers was obviously designed to send a message. I'm just glad the loser wasn't a more competent killer. Austin doesn't need another Charles Whitman. Now, we'll simply have to deal with the stupid media storm. They only made things worse with their bad and overdone reporting.

Living a few hours north of Austin, this story and live coverage dominated the local news in Dallas at noon. I saw this when I came home for lunch. Sad to say, I should be shocked and stunned, but I'm not. I do agree, though, whack job or not, it still is an act of home-grown terrorism. The last update I heard tonight was that one body has been found in the rubble. With two people unaccounted for, I'm guessing it was one of the workers in the building.
This goes to show that you can't do much to stop someone with a twisted mind intent to doing something as extreme as this for whatever crazy reason they imagine. I mean, if the guy wants to kill himself, go for it. But somehow, innocent folks also seem to die in such moments of insanity.
I work in immigration, and we also make decisions that doesn't sit well with those we deny for a "Green Card" and might even put into removal proceedings. Building security hasn't always been the best at places I've worked at, and there's always that possibility someone will want to respond in some radical way to some decision we've made. If someone is intent on doing harm, chances are it will happen.
