For those interested in the War Between the States, I highly recommend the Gettysburg Companion by Mark Adkin(Stackpole Books) 2008. The book is massive, and expensive (I paid $50.00 for it, and that was a reduced price from a Military Book Club). But I can earnestly say that it is, beyond question, the most thorough, and complete treatment of this battle that I have ever seen. It is broken down into subsections, such as: Orders of Battle The Infantry The Artillery The Cavalry Other Arms and Services The Road to Gettysburg The Battlefield The Battle-Day One The Battle-Day Two The Battle-Day Three The Aftermath 50th Anniversary Reunion The volume is profusely illustrated with arms, equipment, uniforms, very detailed maps, and extremely helpful color photographs of the key points of the battlefield, with troop locations added onto the image. For those who want to get into the ultra-detailed minutiae of the battle, this book is the best there is.
