Not long ago, I noted a very nice review of my book on Amazon.com by John Beland, a key member of the country-rock group "The Flying Burrito Brothers." Some members may remember them from the 70's and 80's..I sure do. Anyway, John and I have since corresponded several times, and I was glad to hear that he plans to come to San Antonio in March for the HHD's. He recently sent me the following email, with a very cool song he wrote two years ago about the Alamo. Mark "Hi Mark, Bill, at the Alamo Society jokingly asked if I had ever written or recorded a song about the Alamo. In fact, myself and fellow Flying Burrito Brother Larry Patton did just that. Two years ago we had planned to record a post Burrito album as the duo, Beland & Patton. We cut the tracks here at my studio in Brenham, Texas but never followed through, opting for individual solo careers. Larry and I remain great friends today, and we both thought we should get this unreleased track out to you, in case you are involved in any future Alamo projects and looking for appropriate music. This is called SAN ANTONE, by Beland & Patten. Enjoy... John Beland www.johnbeland.com979-203 3511 Attachment 1: SanAntone.mp3 (application/octet-stream) "

Unfortunately, it seems as if I was unable to post the link to the song correctly. If anyone has a suggestion as to how to do this, please let me know. Mark

That's pretty cool. I wrote and home-recorded a song last year called "San Antone Shuffle", but even though it mentions the Alamo, it is not what I would call an "Alamo song". Maybe I need to write a strictly Alamo tune for y'all.
I'm not sure how you can post it on here. If the MP3 is on a site from which it can be downloaded, then I think that would work. You also can attach it to an email, but beyond that, I'm not sure.
I'll be looking forward to meeting John (and all of y'all) at next year's HHD. In fact, I was trying to guesstimate the days around March 6 so I could get my leave request in now and block the time.
Paul

The John Beland interview will be featured in the December (mailed in November) issue of The Alamo Journal.

I'm a big fan of Gram Parsons and the Parsons era Burritos but haven't kept up with them since Gram died in '73. Beland must have been in a later incarnation of the group. Jim
