I had some surprising news yesterday...my mom lives in the old family homeplace, built in 1856 by my Great-great-grandfather, Captain James L. Lemon, 18th GA. A big ol' Southern looking house, with four big white columns out front Anyway, she received a letter from a location manager, followed by a personal visit. The lady stated that she would like to use the old house as a central location for a new movie being shot, starring Robert Duvall, and Sissy Spacek, called "Get Low." All I know is that it is supposed to take place during the depression, and is a drama, but that's all I know so far.

Be careful, Mark.
Movie studios approached the parents of a local friend of mine, wanting to use their home for a film starring Saturday Night Live star, Jimmy Fallon. But somewhere in the contract, the studio listed that they would not be responsible for any damages to this household during filming.
If your mother accepts, I hope the filming crew is cautious in the home.

We already checked that out Wade, thanks. They are insured and will cover all damages up to 2 million dollars. This is a very well known production company (Zanuck), and is the same group who produced "Titanic," and "Driving Miss Daisy."

All I know is that it is supposed to take place during the depression, and is a drama, but that's all I know so far. The movie Get Low with Duvall and Spacek is based on the life or pending death of Tennessean Felix "Bush" Breazeale, who held his own funeral in 1838 while he was alive to enjoy it. Several thousand people attended this huge media event. Breazeale actually died on February 9, 1942 at the age of 79 years old. He sounds like an interesting guy. Here's a link to his story. www.roanetn.com/Brazealef.htmDuring my senior year of high school the well-known Coen Brothers filmed part of their first movie, Blood Simple at a house on West Park Drive in my old North Austin neighborhood. I never heard of any permanent damge being done to the home, but movie magic made some things unrecognizable in the area. This is the house where John Getz's character lives on a fictional one-way street and Frances McDormand visits. This film is supposedly a cult classic, so I'm sure Duvall's new movie will add some more value to the Lemon house. Congratulations to you Mark and your fortunate mother.

I waited and waited for this Robert Duval movie to show up in Austin theaters or at least the local DVD stores, but it never arrived. I actually had dinner with Duval Saturday night before I had a chance to see this under-distributed film. He was a real gentleman among the guests and gawkers. He has to be one of our greatest living actors. Duval was disappointed that this labor of love film didn't get more attention from the movie-going public. Sad. Has anyone actually seen Get Low?
