As the staff ride coordinator for the Alamo, I have a vested interest in Alamo Plaza; and yes I will be on the compound that evening. The goal of Team Better Block is to create a more pedestrian-friendly environment. This is their second event in San Antonio. The first one was held March 29th near Broadway Ave and Jones Street (near the San Antonio Museum of Art.) Here is some info about that one.

Not much was made about it because it wasn't in front of the Alamo like this one will be.
Here is more detailed info on the Alamo Plaza project.

I try my best not to use this forum as a means of promoting Alamo activities, but myself and other select members of the staff have been conducting paid tours of the battlefield for the last 12 months. These are one-hour tours for the general public at a cost of $15 per person (ages 9 and under free.) They are done twice a day and we are looking at adding additional tours. We average 8-10 visitors per tour. although I have taken as many as 27 out on a single tour. We utilize mobile audio devices that allow the group to hear everything that it said; and we walk the original perimeter. Feedback has been positive and even visitors who have toured the site before are amazed as to how much of the original battlefield can still be interpreted. The battlefield tour gives the visitor the ability to visualize the compound as it looked in 1836 and in a positive way, changes the way they view the compound.
