What program does one need to open a docx file? I've downloaded the article, but have been unable to open it. The Word document you mentioned above would be handy.

The docx format is Microsoft's new WORD format. I use WORD 2000 and had to download something from Microsoft to be able to open this type of document.

That docx innovation has screwed up many a Microsoft user; if you don't have their latest edition of Windows and MSWord, documents created in the new format won't open on your computer until you download the latest Microsoft service packs (I think they are up to service pack #3 now). Personally, I've had it with Microsoft and will buy an iBook next time, although I will still be stuck with Microsoft's MSWord (Mac version), since the world caved to that years ago and you can't function without it.
By the way, the service pack downloads are free.

They are sort of like bullies demanding everything THEIR way. - Paul Meske

And always getting it. Everyone caved to Microsoft a long time ago; better software, like WordPerfect went under, replaced by lousy stuff like MSWord, which is still the standard.

This is getting way OT, but I love my MacBook and , um, "big" Mac (lol). Of course I have Office for Mac on both of them and both will default to saving a doc as .docx. So, I'm always saving as a .doc so others can open the things up.
But you're right. I HATE MicroSoft with a passion.

I have openoffice.org and can open all the Microsoft docs. I like it. It came on my computer when I bought it. Works just like MS word and all the others. Its free to download, just look for it on google openoffice.org I was thinking of putting it on my laptop I just got also. If you don't like it you can always take it out. Just a thought. Thanks, Joy. I've really had it with Microsoft. When this PC goes, I'm switching to an iBook. My wife and daughter adapted to the Mac format virtually overnight and I'm sure I can too. All it lacks is my favorite music software, Sony Sound Forge, which does not yet have a Mac edition. But I can keep my old version on one of our PC laptops for remastering music.

Allen, you might want to go look online at Google look under Sony Sound Forge for Mac. I was just over there and they have it. costly though. :-0 Sounds like you can have the best of both worlds. :-) Joy
