I purchased a wonderful and long overdue book at Barnes and Noble the other day. It's called The Paper Republic, The Struggle for Money, Credit and Independence in the Republic of Texas by James P. Bevill. The financial troubles, victories and production of money have been touched on by other books, but never like this resource. This 352 page work is chock full of photographs of Spanish, Mexican, Texas money, documents and numerous illustrations of noted Texans. This is starting to sound a bit like a paid advertisement, so I'll just post a link and advise you guys to buy this book before it becomes a rare and expensive classic. ....and Mr. Bevill will be speaking on saturday and Sunday at the 2010 Texas Independence Day Celebration at Washington on the Brazos SHS on February 27-28. How's that for an advert?! ;D

Thanks for the heads-up, Scott. This is a fine book, and Jim Bevill is a really nice guy. Jim

I second Jim's comment; we met Jim Bevill during the Texas Book Festival in Austin and he is a very nice person. I just got my copy of the book yesterday and am really knocked out; it's a beautiful volume and, now that I've finished Meacham's "American Lion," I plan to tackle this next.

"A superb volume!" The Paper Republic was reviewed in the Dec. 2009 issue of The Alamo Journal.
