Yesterday I discovered some wonderful paintings of Col William B. Travis, Jim Bowie, Davy Crockett, James Fannin and more on "Sam Houstonmovie.com" It made me remember that I had seen these before and I spent the best part of today searching the internet unable to find the source where I originially saw them. They were all done by "Lajos Markos."
I highly encourage those who do not know what I am talking about and see for yourselves. Once your on the Sam Houston website click on the portraits link on everyone's left side of the page.

We used to sell the whole set at the Alamo Village Trading Post as well as his Alamo battle painting print. I know we still have certain ones in stock, and I'm sure we could sell them and ship them to anybody who would want them. Let me see which ones we still have. Unfortunately, I have no way to provide thumbnails of them, so hopefully you can come up with a website to see what they look like.

Markos was a nationally (and internationally) known portrait artist who did paintings of President Johnson and others. He was commissioned to do the Alamo battle painting that hangs in the governor's office waiting room in Austin. Just as inaccurate as John Wayne's movie -- and just as emotional and appealing.
He used to bring his painting class out to the village to paint for several days back when Happy Shahan was still alive. Hungarian by birth, but painted mostly western art.

I first saw Markos' works on the covers of TRUE WEST and FRONTIER TIMES in the '70s. Always good to see fellow artists who actually make a living at their craft.

rlcgtt, could you please get back to me regarding the specific Markos painting we PM'ed about? I suspect something is not in order with my 2 last send PM's to you as I don't see they have been read by you yet while you are logged in here everyday.
If you just didn't have time to look at them, please forgive me for my impatience.
