Jim: Thanks for setting this up. My interest in the Rough Riders is in that I think they sort of closed a page on American military history, as characterized by the border conflicts, the Civil War and the Indian Campaigns, and transitioned us into a more modern military era. Unfortunately there has not been enough print devoted to them.
One book about them that stands out in my mind above all others is one by the late Virgil Carrington (Pat) Jones, who is better known for his work on Confederate Irregular forces in the Northern Virginia Area - Ranger Mosby and Grey Ghosts and Rebel Raiders. I visited with him once at his home in Centreville Virginia while researching a paper I did for a requirement at the Command and General Staff College. Quite a guy and an excellent historian. He told me at that time he was planning a book on the Texas Revolution but I have never heard anything further about it.
