Just read that Alex Chilton died today of an apparent heart attack. 59 years old. Chilton was the lead singer of the Box Tops and the founder of Big Star, a seminal Memphis pop band. He cranked out a lot of eclectic albums over the years, most all of them worth a listen. I opened for Alex a couple of times. He always put on a good show. I was sorry to hear this sad news. Jim

That is sad. He was a major talent.

Man, it makes me appreciate every day I'm alive, when I see so many music folks I grew up listening to passing on. The Box Tops were pretty popular, thanks to "The Letter" way "back in the day". I'm not familiar with his later stuff, but the Box Tops had a soulful, Memphis kind of sound, come to think of it.
A sad day, indeed.
