What can I say, what can anyone write? I am not sure if this is the right place, but what is the correct forum for addressing Haiti's earthquake relief? The initial shock of the quake disaster is over and thousands are dead, dying, wounded and homeless. It has the potential of becoming an even bigger human disaster if famine and disease set into this poor country. I watched the Hope for Haiti Now musical benefit with numerous stars. The songs and Haiti footage just make your heart break for the Haitian people, especially the children. I tried to call and donate for an hour, but the celebrity volunteers were apparently very busy and I hope they collected millions. As a result of not getting through to Ringo Star or Julia Roberts, I donated to the wonderful Save the Children link below and I hope others here will do the same. Whether you send a dollar or a thousand, now is the time. www.savethechildren.org/

We made our donation through World Vision, a favorite charity of ours and one that was already on the ground in Haiti. A tragedy of epic proportions. Jim

I checked out several charities on Charity Navigator, which had a special set up for Haiti donations. There were several outstanding ones that had long-term excellent records, including Oxfam, AmeriCares and CARE; I donated to one of those. When you see that footage, day after day, it's pretty hard to take, especially when you see how hard so many people down there are working to help the victims. Anything I give seems small compared to the suffering that's going on.

Let's hope some of those multi-billionaires feel the way we do and dip deep into their collective pockets.

I read that George Clooney and Leonardo di Caprio each kicked in $1 million.

Personally, I'm helping Haiti Outreach. Its director is from my town and is well known to all of us here. He's been living in Haiti with his family for 20 years, drilling wells so the rural people can have pure water, and the group also does other things to help more Haitians become self-sufficient and build and improve their communities. Since the earthquakes, they have been working in Port-Au-Prince trying to restore water systems. This is one of those groups where I feel confident that if you send them a dollar, just about every cent is going to go exactly where it can do some good for people who have almost nothing. www.haitioutreach.org/about/vision-and-mission/

I donated the night of the Haiti telethon, to their web site. I hope most of the money will so directly there.

Tom, I dontated to Haiti Outreach today; my second donation re: Haiti earthquake; the first was to C.A.R.E. I hope the money will really do some good and help these people. Our blizzard of 2010 looks like nothing compared to that country's woes.
Thanks for the lead.
