Well that is sad news-I started eating there when they were on Houston Street and then followed them over to South Alamo...that chopped sirlon special was always a pleaser!

Finally back from Bexar after a looooong flight delay. It was good seeing old friends and finally meeting some familiar names on the forum like huntermike, Hiram, and Paul Sylvain. (I'm sure there were more, but I'm still wiped out, so apologies if I've slighted anyone...it isn't intentional.) This year was kind of a working vacation for me and I wish I'd had more time to talk with all you guys. We'll have to do it again. Thanks to everyone for all your encouraging comments and support for the book during the HHDs. It's gratifying to be appreciated by such a learned bunch. This project couldn't have been undertaken without your help, and I'm grateful for you all. Jim

Jim, the pleasure was all mine. I'm still pretty bad with names, but yours I remembered. I'm already looking forward to next year ...

I posted this earlier, but somehow it vanished!
I'll add my own thanks to everyone who attended this year; it was great to see so many familiar faces again, like Wade, Craig, Terry, Jack, Jeff and many others (I apologize if I left anyone out!!) and to meet some new folks, including some of you who have been so active here on the ASF (Paul, Hiram (and Carter!), Mike) as well as Dave Lewis and others. As always, a special thanks to Bill for making this happen every year.
Thanks to all of you who have supported our efforts to bring "David Crockett in Congress" to life and fruition; you've been an important part of the project from the start.

Every year the HHDs get better. Its always nice to see the familiar faces and also get a chance to meet some of the esteemed members who contribute so much to the ASF.
Its great to have a place like this to learn and to share. I was a bit "gun-shy" when I first joined, but I feel at home here and I have learned a lot just by reading (and now meeting and talking to the Forum members.) My son, Carter, had a great experience as well, and he would like to pass along his thanks to everyone.
I would like to personally thank everyone who I met and talked to during the HHDs, you are all great folks and I can't wait till we do the 175th next March. That should be memorable.

Let me be the first to mention how impressed I was with Carter. We probably talked for 20 minutes, and he's an articulate and knowledgeable young man. I had a wonderful time talking with him, and hope he'll join us here on ASF. Carter has a passion for US history, and we'd all do well to encourage the next generation. I know he'd be welcome here.

The future is in the hands and heart of people like Carter. We can only hope to plant the seed and water it with a little of the passion we share for history, especially that of the Alamo.
