Sounds like a date, Glenn. Let's plan on it.

Okay, sounds to me like we ASF members should plan on making the walk together. Something tells me the last stop might be Ernies. Let's figure out a time when most of us can be there! I'm coming in the 4th and leaving the 8th. I'm part of the Red Roof gang again this year. Jim

Paul, I am conducting a walking tour of the compound for a small tour group of 16 persons, on Saturday, March 6th, at 9AM. It will take about an hour to hour and a half. If you want, you may come along with us. Mark L.

My schedule is the same as Jim, as we are pretty much joined at the hip for this visit, except that I am scheduled to arrive on March 5. I'm giving the Red Roof a try this year too. I've taken these walks before and would love to do so again, especially if the tour ends at Ernie's!

Mark's time works well for me. It turns out my wife and I staying out off Loop 410 across from Ingram Mall, near Military Drive on the west side. Besides the Alamo events on the 6th (which I'm doing solo without my missus), we'll be doing stuff with my cousin and friends on th other days. Meeting up at 9 a.m. on the 6th sounds great, Mark, but I'm flexible. Or I can go along with Jim and the others.
Am I correct in thinking Mark's tour is separate from what you were planning, Jim? I will be in town for the sunrise ceremony and will be downtown all morning until sometime that afternoon or early evening. Just let me know where you folks all want to meet, or if a different time works better.
Okay -- so, what's "Ernie's"? I'm guessing this is sort of a tradition ... ?

Paul, Allen and I will be speaking at the Alamo Society Symposium on the morning of the 6th. I'd be happy to join a walkaround after the meeting, though we have a book signing at 3PM at a Books A Million in SA. Perhaps interested parties might consider walking right after the symposium?
Ernie's is the bar in the Crockett Hotel, one of our usual haunts along with the bar at the Menger and the steakhouse across from the Alamo where you'll find many of us at breakfast.

Ooh -- okay -- well, that makes it simple. I don't want to miss the symposium (my first), which to me is a priority on my making it down this year. So, I will be at the meeting with you and the others, and will plan to do the walk around with you after the meeting.
Mark -- thanks for the invite, but I don't want to miss the meetings. I am looking forward to meeting you while in town, though.

Paul, That's fine....I understand completely............. but on a related subject, a word to the wise, regarding walk-around tours on the 6th: The plaza will quickly begin to fill up around 10AM, until it will be an absolute mass of humanity for the rest of the day. Anyone, including myself, out in the plaza after, say 10:30A.M., trying to talk to a group about the Alamo compound, is going to have a hard time of it. Mark

That's a good point, Mark, and it makes perfect sense. If anything changes, I will let you know.

I'm pretty flexible on the time and date of a walking tour. I hate to miss out on Mark's...he's a terrific guide, but I need to be at the symposium.
Mark does make a valid point about the large crowds in the Plaza on the 6th, but on the plus side, Alamo Street will be closed off for a spell.

Looks like a good chance of rain, off and on, through the weekend. Latest check showed a 30 percent chance on Friday and Saturday, and 60 percent chance Sunday. Bring some rain gear or an umbrella with you.

Any rain during the reenactments, the greatcoat I'll be wearing will repel it.
Gah, I can't wait! I'll be sure to bring my Alamo artwork along with me.

The San Antonio Express-News quoted Wade in the Sunday, March 7 paper:
"Edward Teniente, 24, and Wade Dillon, 21, have spent the past four years portraying soldiers from each side at the event.
"Dillon who portrayed Alamo defender James Butler Bonham, flies in from Florida to take part in what he called his 'passion.'
"'It's the greatest underdog story', Dillon said. 'We just get to come out and pay homage to their memory and keep on remembering.'"
Attaway to go, Wade!

It was nice seeing so many familiar faces over the HHD weekend.
I was sorry to learn that the GM Steakhouse is closing in about 2 weeks. Many of us have enjoyed meeting there for breakfast each day during our Alamo soujourns.
