That's good news, Wade! It should be quite the party this year; glad you won't be missing out.
Hey, if you're going to be Bonham, who'll play Travis?

P.S. Incase anyone has a hard time recognizing me this year, I will not have long hair. lol Yeah, well, I'll have mine ... Hey, fantastic news, Wade. It will be good to put a face with another name from here. I don't have a disguise or costume, so I guess I'll just come as I am. That should scare the b'jeekers out of Santy Anny and his boys and move them to surrendering, doncha think? lol See you boys in March. Paul

Hey Glenn,
I'll be portraying Bonham for the 3rd year in a row for SALHA. As for Travis, I attended Joan Headley's party as Travis with Sarah Martin as Rebecca Cummings.
And Paul, for sure. Always good to put a face to a name.

So how many of you will be there this year? I think Glenn asked that question at the start of this thread on Page 1. Needless to say, I will be there.

I was just thinking (which always is a scary proposition for me) ...
... but wouldn't it be great if we could have a screening of the full, uncut, John Wayne "Alamo" flick during our HHD gathering March 6? I mean this is the 50th anny of its release. I just think this would be cool. I don't have a VCR (the current DVD version doesn't do it for me), but maybe someone with one and the full-length version of the film could set this up.
Any other thoughts on this?

Are there any plans for a walking tour of the original Alamo grounds for those of us fairly new to the Society? I know a lot about the site, but there's much I assume about the location of various things.

No formal plans, Paul. ASF hosted a walking tour a couple of years ago (led by Mark Lemon). As Allen suggested, the Walking Tour that's posted here for members is excellent. Maybe we could scare up some people and walk it together.
Allen and I have a very full schedule that weekend with various book related activities, but we might carve out some time. Jim

Work on it came to a screeching halt a couple of years ago, with lots of gaps, unfulfilled intentions, and some things needing updating and correcting, but there it is. With a little creative license I suppose one could use it as the basis for a Siege of Bexar and Battle of the Alamo walk. Note: a while ago we made the document viewable only to registered members of Alamo Studies Forum, and it is copy protected, but IIRC, it is printable.

Jim That would be cool. I am arriving the 4th and leaving the 8th. I plan to bolster my library a bit and am looking forward to putting faces to names on here. We'll see how it works out, but I can always do the walking tour solo on a future trip. I get down to SA several times a year. Paul

Paul, I don't know for sure if I'm going to make it down this year or not, but if I do, I always at least walk the perimeter (usually with Jim). It seems like everytime you do, something jumps out at you, that you never considered before.
If I make it, I'll probably be there Thu-Sun.

I agree with Herb; I've done that perimeter walk alone and in groups and it is very worthwhile. Take your time, too. Go to where the North Wall was and climb the steps of the Federal building and take a good, long look south and east. I wish they'd remove or drastically trim many of the trees in the plaza as they seriously obstruct views these days.
From Alamo Street, turn east on Commerce and look for the white marker where a funeral pyre was built, on the south side of Commerce at an overpass. Turn back west on Commerce and take the long walk past the Moses Austin statue, the Ben Milam statue in Milam Park, the old Spanish Governor's mansion, and of course San Fernando Church. Step inside the entrance and view the sarcofagus allegedly containing Alamo defender ashes.
Just a few points.

Good pointers. Actually, last year I made a point of visiting Milam Park (I believe it was once the old burial ground), which I had driven past a million times, but never visited before. About two years ago, I stopped in and looked at the small sarcofagus at the San Fernando church. I don't believe I've actually traced the actual perimeter, but will do si this time. I will definitely look for the white marker.
What you say about there always being something that jumps out at you is so true. Even if I'm in town for just a day or two, I always go to the Alamo and visit the shrine and grounds. It seems I always discover something I did not see or know before. I expect this trip will reveal new gens to me, as well.

I truly enjoy the walking tours; as Herb said, you seem to discover something new each time you go. If you're looking for company, I'd be delighted to join you.
