If I remember correctly, all the salt pork was found to be tainted as per Davey in "Alamo 64", and we all know that "The Duke" was a stickler for detail and historical correctness.

In one of Susanna Dickinson's accounts (if I remember) she said they had enough food for a month. However, firewood was indeed scarce because they sallied out several times to gather it by tearing down jacales. Water likewise may have been a problem. Enrique Esparza remembered the Texians were digging a well in the plaza but said it was never finished. The acequias (what you called a stream) were outside the west wall and east wall, both very vulnerable to enemy fire. The one that came right through the plaza was blocked off by the Cannon batteries in both the S.W. and S.E. corners of the compound and totally useless throughout the siege.

(Ignore this guy. ) Actually, Duke did get one thing right. His restrooms (outside the north wall of the convento yard in his undersized set) were on the exact location of the "latrines" indicated on the Sanchez-Navarro plat (inside the cattle pen in the real Alamo). I'm sure Duke never realized this or it would have been all over his publicity book. LOL.
