I'm going to see Skynyrd next Thursday night in Augusta, GA....I fully realize that they just aren't the same without the powerful leadership and songwriting of Ronnie Van Zant (and all the rest who are now gone), but I just can't forgive myself for having the opportunity back in 75 and 76 to see them not once, but three times live, and not doing so. At least Gary Rossington, and Rickey Medlocke (who briefly played with Skynyrd in the very early days), are with them. As one poster on youtube said recently, they may not be the real Skynyrd, but they're the best Skynyrd tribute band in the world.......

Well, I just got back from the Skynyrd concert. Drove 180 miles from my home above Atlanta, to the James Brown Arena in Augusta..... All I can say, with great understatement, is that it was the best concert I've ever seen, and I've seen many, many bands and artists....The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, The Allman Brothers, Jethro Tull, Leon Russell, Elton John, Chicago, The Eagles, Linda Ronstadt, etc..... These guys still rock somehow, even as old as some of them are...geez, what talent, energy, and musicianship... If they ever come to a venue near you, you won't be disappointed...go see them-you'll thank me. By the way, two very talented bands opened for them: a hard rock group called Rev Theory, and a great Southern Rock band called Blackberry Smoke, from Atlanta. The link is a video of Blackberry Smoke doing a great song called "Freedom Song" www.youtube.com/watch?v=RFBFUJaRIXI&feature=related
