Hey everyone, Went to my first of three sittings to receive my Alamo tattoo, last night. The design is based on an illustration by Mark Lemon and the stencil is based off of a drawing of mine of the Alamo. The tattoo artist is Todd Lake, who has won many awards and has tattooed members from Guns N' Roses, Velvet Revolver, Queens of the Stone Age, and many other bands. These photos, and video, is from last night during my first sitting. Updated photos of the work in progress will be posted after each sitting and after my arm has healed. Be warned...I'm fairly plump. And after I removed the bandage this morning... What does everyone think? Todd has done one hell of a job so far, hasn't he? All the best, Wade

I am impressed. I have several tattoos, mostly Native American-inspired (I'm part Abenaki) ... but I'd never thought of an Alamo tattoo.
I do like it. Both artists (you and your stencil and the guy doing work) deserve attaboys. Can't wait to see the finished work.

The one that hurt the most for me was an armband around my upper arm. The inside of your arm is one very sensitive area. Oooooh! Still hurts when I think about it.

The Church looks real nice, Wade...but I'd like to know where you're going to put the Long Barracks? ;D

I think the Long Barracks would look real good across your back. Then, what do you plan to get on your chest, the palisade (w/ Crockett's Tennesseans in position!) or the main gate/southwest gun platform?
Seriously though -- I like the shading Todd has done -- I think that's pretty hard to do on a tattoo. Your design is fantastic -- can you post the design somewhere on the site sometime?

This begs the question, were the corral and the latrines are going to go! ;D Nice tattoo Wade, you have my courage and pain tolerance than I!

Hey gang,
As awesome as it sounds, I don't believe I'll try getting the rest of the Alamo compound on my body lol. I don't see myself taking off my shirt all the time to show off the fortress. I've had other ideas from portraits of the holy trinity to a battle depiction on my right shoulder blade. But, those are just ideas. Todd and his assistant even suggested I get a full sleeve of Alamo related pieces, but, I've got my future to keep in mind when it comes to careers and such.
I'm very happy with my tattoo so far and cannot wait until it is finished. Although, if you look hard enough, Todd did make a few mistakes on the church, but he did such a great job that I don't fret much about it. Currently, the tattoo is peeling and is very close to being fully healed. Once it's healed, I'll make the next appointment. Got the morning sunrise and Crockett quote left to do and the tattoo is complete!

Also, the needle for the black outline and details didn't hurt too much. It was the needle Todd used for the coloring and shading, which was 5 smaller needles, that continually scraped across my skin...making it raw and thus my arm swelled up a size or two. That's what made it painful, especially when he went over other layers of color. It hurt like hell and I bled quite a bit. Which, when seeing the Alamo church on my arm...with my blood running down the wall...left quite an image in my head.
And one funny moment occured when Todd mistakenly asked what Paul Revere had to do with the Alamo. Once my father and I started laughing, he said, "Oh nuts, I mean Davy Crockett". We continued laughing when I replied, "The Mexicans are coming! The Mexicans are coming". That took my attention away from the pain for, oh, one minute out of the 3 hours I was sitting. lol

I am sorry to come in here and share the excitement and wanting to show y'all my tatt of the Alamo, but please understand that I live in The Netherlands and I just recently discovered this AWESOME forum. Once again, I am not here to take away anything from Mr. Dillon's tatt, but DANG! I like the comic style your tattoo was done. Here's mine: The opinion of all y'all Alamo fascinados would be greatly appreciated by me. Once again, sorry to hijack your post Mr. Dillon!

I like it, Alamo50! I am getting a sunrise and Crockett's motto added on my 22nd birthday in September.
I may even get more work done in the future. We'll see!
