We lost Tulisha Wardlaw (Happy and Virginia Shahan's daughter) this morning around 11:30. She had been operated on and was in and out of ICU at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio several times over the past two weeks. They couldn't keep her lungs free of liquid, due no doubt to the cancer. By yesterday, her temperature was going crazy, so everybody was braced for it.
I don't have any details yet but will post them when I do.

This has been a year of losses, hasn't it? I don't know the Sheehan family personally, but certainly feel their loss. My thoughts and prayers are with them.

We got information today from the family regarding funeral plans for Tulisha.
The viewing will be tomorrow (Monday, Sept. 28) at Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 2020 N. Bedell Ave., Del Rio, Texas 78840. It will be from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. For those who wish to send flowers, this is the address.
The church service will be Tuesday morning at 9:30 at the Methodist Church in Del Rio. Sorry, I can't find an address, but I'm pretty sure it is across the viaduct from where Highway 90 turns right. You go left at this turn, cross the bridge, turn right, and the church is on the right.
After the service, there will be a graveside gathering on the Wardlaw Ranch south of Highway 90 between Del Rio and Brackettville. I'm sure directions will be available at the church. This will be a very light-hearted gathering (as Tulisha would have insisted), wear comfortable clothes, bright colors. There will be a Bar-B-Q along Pinto Creek after the burial. The word is, "Bring a chair and a bathing suit."

She sounds like my kind of person. I was just in San Antonio last week, but unfortunately have to fly to NYC today, for a 12-day stay and work project. I will be there in spirit, though.

I am sorry for posting so late to this thread.
I was fortunate enough to meet both Tulisha and Virginia Shahan a couple of years ago when I went out to photograph the Alamo Village for my website. I wound up working on Tulisha's computer for her while I was out there and she could not have been kinder or more gracious. Virginia, Tulisha's mom, was still lucid and an amazing woman to talk to .... one of those people you meet and whom you never forget.
Tulisha told me some great stories. She was on the basketball team there in Brackettville in the late 1950's/early 1960's when the movie was filmed. John Wayne himself actually came to a couple of her games to watch her. Her friends/teachers just about flipped out when the Duke entered that little gymnasium.
Her son in law is Rick McKivor, the former University of Texas QB who is now, I believe, the Sheriff out in Fort Davis.
