I know we've touched on discussing Cormac McCarthy's "Blood Meridian" somewhere on the forum. I read the book again last year, but it's currently the selection of the AV Club's book club, and this article was posted this morning which I found interesting. www.avclub.com/articles/harold-bloom-on-blood-meridian,29214/ I've read a lot of McCarthy (although not much of his recent work), but nothing had the impact of "Blood Meridian." My father taught English literature and I believe this was the last book he recommended I read before he died in 1990. Knowing that I was interested in the Mier Expedition, I think he described McCarthy's greatest work as real and surreal at the same time. I postponed reading it for a couple years because it just seemed so gruesome. It is a wonderful read, but I really doubt it will ever be made into a movie that will do it any justice. It's hard to put a historical masterpiece on film, especially a bloody one.
