I saw this video a few days ago and enjoyed it very much. It's probably the best presentation I've seen at the Texas Book Festival as it's informative, witty and just plain entertaining. A lot of well-known author types will get up there and bore you to tears no matter how well received their book is by the media and public. Isn't that Steve Harrigan in the audience having a staring contest with some bearded local yahoo with a ballcap? ;D

Thanks RR! We really appreciated you being there and your support!
Yeah - that sure looks like Steve Harrigan eyeballing that other dude. Steve was very gracious to us, bought a copy of the book and came to the signing tent to have us sign it for him. A very interesting and friendly individual. If you look in the CSPAN Video Library, you'll find at least one Alamo panel that Steve chaired in Austin a few years back that included Tom Lindley and Frank Thompson.

Jim and Allen, Just wanted to say I love your book. Tried to start reading it in Bexar, but one of Joan's margaritas prevented my full attention! Being a moderate Crockett fan, aside from his Alamo "involvement", I never really sought to know more about the man. The book has allowed me to see the human side of Crockett and understand more about the times in which he lived. I have been thoroughly engaged thus far with the coorespondences, of which I am about half way through- I love it! Since I've somewhat finished the Veramendi model, I'll have more time to finish it. Kudos, gentlemen!
ps- I had to wrestle the kids for the Crockett bookmarks!

Mike -- Many thanks for your kind remarks; I'm delighted to hear that you are enjoying the book so much and finding it useful. It was great seeing you in Bexar, with or without Joan's margaritas!

I've been re-reading your book, and it would be a valuable one to own on the basis of Crockett's letters alone. But the thorough treatment of Congressman Crockett's career, in your narrative, is one that will stand for many decades. It's an excellent read as well as sourcebook. Bravo, Jim and Allen!

There is a good article in the May issue of True West magazine. It's called Fifty Years After the Alamo, Written for S.A.G.s, otherwise known as "Serious Alamo Guys." This issue also contains a piece by Mr. Bill Groneman on supposed fallacies concerning Davy Crockett. Oh and last, but not least, there's an inset of Alamo54 and Allen's new book on page 51. You know the name. All good readin' if you got the time.
