Alamo Community,
It is with sadness that I share the passing of Alan Kude this weekend. He was a long-time member of the Alamo Society, and a contributor to several books about the Alamo as popular culture.
Alan's Alamo movie memorabilia collection was considerable, as was his knowledge of that historical event. He was also very knowledgeable about epic films of the 1940's, 50's and 60's. (He could tell you anything you wanted to know about "roadshow" films.) Alan formed and maintained many friendships through his interests and hobbies. He loved sharing what he knew and what he had.
Alan was a colorful character in the true sense of the word. Anyone who knew him, especially those of us who attended past Alamo Society symposiums, has at least one good Alan Kude story.
Alan was my friend, and I'll miss reverting to age 12 with him, as we did during each of our visits. Many friends that I made in the Alamo Society, I met through Alan.
Alan leaves his mother, his sister, his daughter and three grandchildren.
Phil Riordan

I had been informed of his passing by one of his friends, Ashley Ward, another Alamo Society member.
I have already written something about him for the next issue of The Alamo Journal. For veteran Alamo Society members, Alan was featured in the "Membership Profile" of issue #70 (March 1990).

I may not have known him, but I feel the loss, and he sounds like a person I would have enjoyed swapping yarns with. His family will be in my thoughts and prayers.
