Paul Newman died yesterday after a long struggle with cancer. I'm sure all of us have enjoyed Mr. Newman's movies, he's made some great ones. Paul Newman was also a great philanthropist, and I owe him a personal thanks. His generous support of the Boggy Creek Camp here in Central Florida enabled multitudes of pediatric cancer patients to enjoy a week of "normalcy". The kids were quartered in beautiful cabins in a lovely atmosphere that provided fishing, horseback riding, archery, swimming, and many other activities, and state of the art medical facilities were available right there on the campus so the chemo and radiation treatments could stay on schedule. Parents could send their fragile children to Boggy Creek with complete confidence that they would be well cared for, all at no charge to the families. Vacations are a near impossibility for families with children in treatment for cancer, so Boggy Creek is a blessing. My youngest son attended summer camp there five times, and is hoping to return as a counselor now that he's older and out of treatment. Paul Newman will be missed, but Boggy Creek and the numerous other camps throughout the world that Mr. Newman supported are a testament to a good, kind man. Thank you, Paul. You made my family's burden a little easier to bear. Rest in Peace. Jim

Paul Newman was a great actor, but more importantly, a very fine human being and example. Jim, your post is indicative of how he and his wife and those connected with their charitable endeavors have made life so much better for so many people.
RIP, Mr. Newman.

Paul Newman's life is an example of what it means to literally give back. He worked very hard to achieve success in his chosen field, and he developed into one of the great ones. But his success also gave him a sense of responsibility to share with others less fortunate and to ive help to many who needed it and would not have gotten in otherwise. His philanthropy is well known and the tributes you've paid to him here are well deserved. I will miss him; RIP indeed.
