Yep, I got the uncut, uninterrupted version of The Alamo 2 nights ago on my local PBS station. I hadn't seen that version in so long I had forgotten some of the scenes. I don't even think I have ever seen or remember the scene where Crockett throws the Bowie knife in the man's chest in the basement of the church. I "had" to watch the rest and it was late!!

See if you can pick up one of the VHS 2-cassette editions of the film; both are uncut (I think one is called "The Director's Cut"); one has the Brian Humberman documentary film on the making of "The Alamo," but that print is only partially widescreen; the other one does not have the documentary, but it is the full widescreen print. I'm on the road now and don't have the tapes with me, but pick up either version if you can; the difference between the two prints isn't that big a deal.
Of course, if you already taped it off the air, you've got it! So save your money! These are tough times!

Of course, if you already taped it off the air, you've got it! So save your money! These are tough times! AW On the other hand, if the PBS presentation didn't include the Overture, Entr'Acte and the Walk-Out Music, you CERTAINLY must own it on the VHS release. The one I have is the second packaging of the full-length cut, and it is labeled "Original Uncut Version" and "Deluxe Letter-Box Edition." I also have an earlier release (same version) that is labeled "Restored Original Directors Cut," if I remember correctly (don't have it handy). Both have the documentary attached, although it is the 45-minute version rather than the 68-minute version (I think 68) that was on the Delux Laser Disk. I think both of my VHS directors cut releases are full letterbox -- the Deluxe one definitely is. I just checked it to be sure -- and then watched the whole thing. I believe the only VHS version that was semi-letterbox was the first one that was not pan-and-scan full screen.

Rich, You must have a third VHS version that I don't have; I only have the 2 I mentioned. Also, if you can catch the film on TCM, you'll get the Overture, Entr'Acte and Exit Music, and the full wide screen print, uncut. I do not understand why they ever released the partial widescreen edition at all, and then followed it up with the full widescreen (but without the Huberman film, at least not on the one I have).
The answer is a full-blown restored DVD edition with loads of extras, including the complete Huberman film and the "Spirit of the Alamo" TV special.

I really hope there is the original uncut version out there, but I am starting to think it is a figment of our imaginations!

You guys can see a good amount of the cute scenes on Youtube as well. Yesterday I watched the extended Jethro/Bowie scene after Houston leaves, The Parson, etc. It was so great.

TCM is broadcasting the widescreen/letterbox 203 minute version of The Alamo on March 17 @ 2:15pm (East coast time). Get your DVRs or other recording devices cranked up, if you don't already have a copy of this.
