List,
Alright, I have a brief background on Jerome Robertson. He was almost the stereotypical Texian Indian fighter, participated in the various campaigns in '42 to repel Mexican invasions and such and was a part of the Somervell Expedition. What's nagging at me is he's not really mentioned in any of my books on the subject(least ways not at first glance) but I know the name for some reason.
Does anybody have anything on whether or not this guy was part of the Mier Expedition after it broke off from Somervell or maybe some other expedition/campaign that Robertson gained some notoriety for? I'm sure Dale Martin who used to be manager at Monument Hill could help me but I've lost his contact information and I'm at a loss as to why I know the name. Any help would be appreciated!

Scott:
Jerome Bonaparte Robertson wasn't on the Mier Expedition; at least not according to the accounts and books I have. He was probably most famous for taking command of Hood's Texas Brigade toward the end of the Civil War, and for working for Texan veterans' rights after the war.

Jerome B. Robertson commanded a company on the Somervell Expedition from Oct 17, 1842 until Jan. 17, 1843, so apparently Robertson couldn't have run-off on the Mier fiasco, which started in late Dec. 1842. (Source: Republic Claim 182-589)

Robertson indeed commanded a company on the Somervell Expedition, but he and his men were among those who quit the expedition at Laredo on December 8 and returned home, having had enough of the whole fiasco. Thus, they weren't among the remaining ~309 Texans who then continued on to Mier.

Well, that explains why I found so little on Jerome in my Mier books and why so few of his men filed claims for their Somervell service. Thanks trk.

Interesting stuff, I never realized that the two men were one and the same.
