Many thanks for sharing your pictures. I'm ashamed to admit I have never been to Yorktown. And judging from the great photos, it appears I've missed out on some amazing history.
From what I recall, American, French, and British forces fought there in 1781. And in 1862, Union and Confederate soldiers were engaged in the area. Was there any overlapping of battlefield? In other words, did any of the combatants in 1862 utilize the same ground as the soldiers from 1781?

John Magruder utilized some of Cornwallis' defensive trenchworks in the early spring of 1862! [To be sure, George McClellan saw more Confederates than were actually positioned there, but that's another topic for another forum.] And weeks later at Seven Pines, CSA and USA forces clashed where Lafayette advanced back in 1781. And lots of roadside markers in VA to assist history-oriented sojourners. VA is best enjoyed in any month.

You know, I've never taken that Ghost Walk, but I'm going to one of these days. The best nighttime tour like that I ever took was in Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia and it took place in the old, old graveyard. I enjoyed it so much that I took it again on my next visit.
There is an awful lot of history in Virginia, to be sure, and I'm not far from Antietam, Harpers Ferry and Gettysburg.

Now it can be told: we spent a morning in Harpers Ferry in April, on the way home from Winchester, VA. It was sort of a spur of the moment diversion, but next time I'll give you a ring, Allen, and see if you're available for some tromping up and down those hilly streets. Yeah, Virginia is one of my favorite states. Lots of great towns and sights, but I like the Valley the best.

Let me know, Tom! Right now, my wife is cajoling me into a trip to Seattle-Portland so she can use up a free plane ticket before it runs out. I know nothing about that area, except that it has active volcanos.
