Speaking of Fess Parker. For more than fifty years I've been wanting a Davy Crockett cap EXACTLY like one worn by him in King of the Wild Frontier.True,he wore several different ones.Until I figure out how to post photos let me just say that it should look like the one he wore at the Alamo.I doubt it is a coon, looks more like beaver. Can anyone help me out?

Several caps were made for Fess for his Disney Crockett productions. Two types were used in the initial trilogy (particularly "Davy Crockett, Indian Fighter"): coonskin and coyote.
One of the coonskin caps was on display last summer at Disney Studios.
The best way to have a cap duplicated is to first get a good digital color photo from the Disney Treasures DVD. Several photo angles are better than one, but make sure it's the same cap.

Yea your right Bill, I forgot about the coyote. thinking back some that might have been the type I had when I was young also. It closely looked more like coon although it wasn't if I remember right. It was not a full cap either as there was no face/head on it though. So hard for me to remember it in detail after so many years.

I ordered a coonskin cap from crockettcoonskincaps as soon as I found out that my first grandchild was on the way. (Born in August. I was shooting for Crockett's birthday, but missed it by a week.) There are certain traditions one must pass on! At any rate, I found these folks to be very friendly and prompt in their service, and can recommend them. The cap I ordered was a coon tail cap..I figured a full-faced coonskin cap might scare the little guy! Jim

Thanks for your comments!I'd have no problem in providing a number of photos of how the Crockett-cap should look. But where can I get one made?

I would suggest if you want to try to get one made you should probably contact crockettcoonskincaps.tripod.com/index.html They may be able to do something custom and who knows they might even make a new line out of it if they don't already have a similar. Else you need to find a coon skin it, dry it (be sure to make a good coon soup also, waste not want not) and tell the wife ... get busy sewing this up this way .... J/k.

In January,2009,I contacted Western Costume in my 50-year long search for an exact copy of Fess Parker's Davy Crockett cap(see The Alamo episode).First,I was told that they could make me for about $1000.00.I responded "Go Ahead!"A month later they informed me that they were not sure they could make one as per my request and suggested I look elsewhere!Western Costume, can't make a coon-skin cap? Now,where do I search?NONE of the Internet sites I've found make anything even close.HELP!
