Guidelines for Members (Revised March 25, 2011):
1. We welcome all reasonable opinions and ask that members treat the postings of others with respect and courtesy. If you disagree with a statement, explain clearly in your post why you differ; don’t attack the writer personally. This forum has a zero-tolerance policy toward individuals who exhibit rudeness, disrespect, harassment, a combative posture toward others, or engage in threats. Members should also take care not to denigrate another member in a manner that could be construed as defamation of character. Think twice before you post.
If you believe you have been attacked or harassed in a forum post or private message, do not engage in a further argument with the offender, but rather notify a moderator. (You may use the “Report Post” function at the bottom of each post to bring the moderators’ attention to a post you feel is offensive.) At the sole discretion of the moderators, offending posts will be deleted from the forum, and the membership of the offending party or parties may be revoked or suspended with no advance notice.
2. Likewise, spamming, racial or religious slurs, and profanity will not be tolerated on the forum or in the forum’s private messages function.
3. Discussion of hot-button topics such as religion, race, and politics are off-limits on this forum. ASF no longer hosts discussions on the Alamo Plaza restoration or DRT controversies.
5. While humorous replies are welcome when appropriate, nonsense posts or extended off-topic exchanges tend to be thread-killers and will not be tolerated. We reserve the right to delete or move such posts.
6. In an effort to encourage civility and transparency, we encourage the use of real names, rather than pseudonyms, when posting on, or registering for, ASF.
7. The pasting into this forum of text or images for which the poster does not hold copyright could pose legal liabilities, so instead of doing so, please simply insert a hyperlink to the webpage in question: i.e., click the "earth" icon in the "Add Tags" menu, and insert the url to the webpage between the two bracketed url codes. Similarly, if you quote the written work of somebody else, please identify the source (e.g., author and title of the work).
8. When using the "Quote" function, only quote as briefly as possible to establish the context of your reply, to reduce clutter and make the thread more readable. Unnecessarily quoting entire lengthy posts or ones that include the duplication of photograph files may lead to the deletion of your post or the moderator editing the quote.
9. Do not post messages in all-capital letters, bold type, or colored fonts, as these have undesirable connotations of shouting and grasping for attention.
10. Do not feed the trolls should they arrive. Ignore them if the moderators aren't online; the mods will permanently deal with them in short order. Any member who joins and immediately starts posting spam, adult content, abusive messages, etc., will have his/her membership permanently revoked, and an abuse report will be sent to the person’s internet provider.
11. If you have any disagreements or concerns about the operation or conduct of this forum or the decisions of the moderators, discuss this with the moderators, not on the open forum.
12. The Alamo Studies Forum is happy to provide a platform for participating members to promote their own books, publications, organizations, or similar enterprises. Reciprocity is, however, required, and a link to the Alamo Studies Forum must be included on the author’s (or artist’s, organizer’s, etc.) website. Failure to provide a link to ASF will result in the deletion of promotional posts. Parties who do not have a website will be excused from this requirement.
Likewise, members using this forum to promote their projects will be expected to participate in discussions on the forum; failure to do so may result in revocation of membership as advertising without participation will be regarded as spamming.
13. Solicitations of monetary contributions to organizations, or links to the same, are prohibited.
14. Criticism of, or posting links to other discussion forums is prohibited.
15. The moderators reserve the right to delete posts or threads at their sole discretion.
