Its clearly a bad week...
I've just learned that the operatic tenor, Jerry Hadley, has shot himself and is not expected to survive.
As some of you will know Jerry was also a very keen Alamo enthusiast and attended the High Holy Days in March this year in company with Frank Thompson.
Some of you may recall him from Joan's party and he afterwards came out to Dripping Springs. He was not known as a historian but he had an infectious warmth to his personality and a genuine interest in the Alamo and its history.

I met Jerry for the first time at Joan's this year, and can only echo Stuart's impressions. This is tragic news. Man, when it rains... Jim

I'm truly saddened by the news. I'm grateful to have met him and it was a pleasure to walk around the Dripping Springs Set with him and talk about everything Alamo, as well as his career as a tenor. I'm stunned.

Another sad and tragic personal story.
Jerry first "crossed the line" of The Alamo Society Feb. 13, 1994. His "Membership Profile" in issue #106 (Sept. 1997) brought him to the attention of Alamo buffs everywhere. His warm smile alone could illuminate a room. And his voice!

This is a real shock. What a horrible week. I first became aware of Jerry when he performed in Paul McCartney's "Liverpool Oratorio", but I remember him much more for his warmth and friendliness at Joan's party last March, and for the special song he sang that night.
Preserve your memories. They're all that's left you.

Frank Thompson brought Jerry out to Alamo Village after High Holy Days, and we all liked him. It was a privilege to have spent even that little bit of time with him.

Frank has just advised that Jerry received the last rites and was removed from life support this morning.
May he rest in peace.

This, to me, is the very definition of tragedy. What a terrible loss.

My thoughts and prayers are with Jerry's family and friends. I met Jerry only briefly, was introduced by Bill Chemerka at Joan's party, but found him charming and warm. Bill and Frank Thompson knew him well, and I know both of them are bound to have been deeply affected by this loss. Jim
