I never met or communicated with Thomas Ricks Lindley, but I remember when I first heard of him, in a profile Stephen Harrigan wrote in Texas Monthly many years ago. Harrigan portrayed him as a purposeful, hard-working researcher who was slowly but methodically trying to uncover every document possible concerning the Battle of the Alamo. Mr. Lindley was a consummate researcher: one who did it not for academic honors or financial rewards, but for the sheer joy of discovering and sharing new historical evidence and advancing the field of study. IMO, that is the *best* type of researcher.
Peace to him.

My heart just sank and has left me deeply saddened as I read the news of Tom's crossing the "heavenly line." I sincerely regret that I'll have to wait a little longer for the honor of meeting him myself. We have all benefited from his hard work, dedication, experience, and knowledge. I think we can all agree when I say that there are "big shoes to fill" and that he'll be a "tough act to follow." The Alamo and the Alamo community has lost a fearless fighter and devoted friend. I can almost hear the stones of the Alamo lament...one last time. Thank you, Tom....and God bless.
