Saw a review of a new Boone bio, "Boone - a Biography" by Robert Morgan in the Post Sunday book review. Anyone read this? The review is very positive and mentions that there have been several Boone bios, including a 2003 book by Michael Lofaro, who's also written on Crockett. Anyone seen his Boone bio? I've read two Boone bios, including John Mack Faragher's and a 1939 bio, "Daniel Boone - Master of the Wilderness" by John Bakeless. It's been a while since I read them, but I recall there being little new in Faragher's book, although I enjoyed both books. This review suggests that Boone's story is the story of America, and I've always believed that everyone ought to read at least one good bio of Boone and of Benjamin Franklin to better understand the United States. Here's a link to the review: www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/10/11/AR2007101101905.htmlAW

I haven't seen this new one yet, but I do have Lofaro's Boone bio along with the other two you mentioned. Lofaro released "The Life and Adventures of Daniel Boone" back in the 80's, then a couple of years ago released "Daniel Boone: An American Life", which is an expanded version of the earlier book. I believe Stackpole Books released the Draper manuscript a few years ago, which may still be in print as well. Jim

The Life of Daniel Boone, edited by Ted Franklin Belue is worthy of attention. Belue has written/edited additional works on Boone and is particularly knowledgeable about Eastern frontier life. I had the pleasure of working with him on Gary Foreman's History Channel documentary, Boone and Crockett: The Hunter Heroes.
