Greetings, If there are any firearms researchers in the group, I have a question for you.
What sources do you rely on for identifying the military inspector cartouches and their dates of use?
I have been putting together a very sporadic list that I have drawn heavily from sword collectors, but there must be a better source out there!

Depends what sort of firearms you're looking at. I rely on Blackmore's book myself but that only covers British firearms up to 1850. However if its any help let me know and I'll scan the relevant bits and send them.

Hi Stuart, I will have to file that one in the back of the brain. I am sorry, I was asking in regard to US martial arms. I have had a hard time tracking down a comprehensive listing of inspectors and their corresponding markings.

I assumed that was the case, but thought I'd mention it in case you were also looking at some of the stuff that was imported, eg: by the Mexican government
