Rick Range has asked me to post the following sad news:
"I am shocked and saddened to announce that a beloved member of our Texas history community has passed. I just learned that Charley Yates, noted Texas War re-enactor and cannon expert, has died at the young age of 65. Many of you probably knew him, but for those who didn't, Charley was the quintessential friendly, boisterous, and enthusiastic Texan. He was also one of the most prominent and active promoters of Texas history that we had. Charley was, for example, one of the influential witnesses who testified before the Texas Legislative Appropriations Committee that helped get the bill passed for the Alamo project.
"Charlie's memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 27, at 10:00 A.M. at Weed-Corley-Fish, 411 Ranch Road 620 S., Lakeway, Texas. He will be sorely missed. Adios, pardner, and thanks for all you have done."
