New Zealand's pay TV company has just put out a mailer to attract new subscribers advising us that we need to see this show, but on the basis of what I've been reading, I don't think I'll be subscribing!

I agree with most of the negative statements on Texas Rising. It was probably the worst historical film or TV series I have ever seen. It was like a long train wreck, but I could not stop watching it from bad beginning to bitter end. I started taking notes on the numerous factual mistakes, but I was overwhelmed. What's sad is that I think these are the producers that came to my state a couple of years ago to shop around a Texas ranger TV series with Mike Cox and other ranger historians but settled on author David M. Wilkinson. I would add that this alleged historical film was the worst depiction of the Texas rangers ever filmed. The majority of Deaf Smith's ranger company were thieves, deserters, lechers and slackers in time of war. I found them very un-ranger-like in their dirty appearance and disorganized actions. I don't think I'm being too harsh.

What is even more disheartening than the low caliber of Texas Writhing is the fact that most of America goes to The "History" Channel and accepts what they see as truth -- as history.

I went on a tour of the Texas frontier forts in June and July. Sadly, I ran into several people who thought the mini-series was actually good and factual. It was hard for me to comprehend.
