The two cannon on platform behind the MAin gate...possibly they were ever fired...or not? I dont recall in any of the Mexican accounts of these two cannons ever being used after the Main gate complex was overrun....

Your guess is as good as mine. The task of these two small guns behind their espaldon was obviously to cover the entrance gate in order to add a second line of defense after the lunette was overrun. However, Morales' column, tasked with taking the gate, probably took it from the inside of the compound after gaining access over the S.W. corner and down the cannon ramp seen at the right in the first picture from my model. If this was the case, then it is entirely possible that these guns never saw action, as Morales' cazadores (all sharpshooters using rifles) would have been able to clear the guns by picking off gunners from the 18 pounder platform. The main gate was well protected.
