There are several ongoing threads that touch on elements of the Second Seminole War, including the Model 1833 leather forage cap. Rather than belabor those threads, I figured I'd open one for information on uniforms of that war. There's a book that was published in 1996 that I figured would be out of print by now, but the publisher, Dixie Gun Works, still lists it as available. It's titled The Men of Fort Foster: Enlisted Uniforms, Equipment and Artifacts of the United States Armed Forces, 1835-42, by Alejandro M. de Quesada, Jr. (See link below) As the title suggests, it's a study of the uniforms, equipment, and arms of the army and navy enlisted men in Florida in the Second Seminole War, and it's as good a reference as any on the subject. It's heavily illustrated with black and white photos and illustrations, and is good value for the price, fifteen bucks. And yeah, there are several photos and www.dixiegunworks.com/product_info.php?products_id=1781&osCsid=0cb7cadfab428d6bcf10bc168f11cc5f

TRK, You ol' warhorse! That is a good find that will help me a lot. I never knew about this book. When I pulled up the link, I was reminded of another classic that is an outstanding reference on accouterments of the era. Anyone interested in Federal era through Mexican War U.S. equipment should add this inexpensive volume to their library: Accoutrements of the US Infantry, Riflemen, and Dragoons, 1834-1839 It, too, is still available from Dixie for $8.95! John, the Accoutrements book you recommended is a good one; I have a copy buried here somewhere.
