I picked up a book called "1066" by David Howarth. As you might guess, it is about the Norman invasion of England in 1066. I became somewhat interested in this event during my visit to Normandy in April 2005. While I spent most of my time out there touring the D-Day beaches and other sites, I stayed in Bayeaux and, naturally, went to see the famous Bayeaux Tapestry.
The 1066 invasion was such a big event in world history and this book is a terrific account of what brought it about, who the major figures were, and a great effort to recreate the world of the English and the Normans in the year 1066. It's also a very quick read at just under 200 pages.
If you have any interest in that era or event, I highly recommend this book. I'd also like to know if anyone has other popular reading suggestions about this.

It's been a while since I read this book, but I enjoyed it as well. Jim
