So, I'm having some friends over tonight and thought I'd sit down and relax before they arrived (in the middle of a Rocky Mountain snow storm) by watching some good ol' cable TV. I thought I might catch a good flick, like The Professionals with Lee Marvin and Burt Lancaster or The Scalphunters, again with Burt Lancaster. Instead, I see on the SyFy Channel that they are broadcasting a 2013 made for cable movie called Chupacabra vs the Alamo. I wont be able to watch this classic tonight but hope somebody on the forum will and then fill me later. I'd be interest in knowing some of its deeper nuances. For example, does Eric Estrada survive the chupacabra's final assault on the Alamo? Or does he go down fighting like Davy? And if he does, where does he make his final stand, in the church or in the Long Barracks? How many chupacabra does he kill, 70 or 1500? Since they are Mexican in origin, do the chupacabra wear shakos or sombreros? And finally, what do you think Adina de Zavala would think of this? Please let me know.

My wife refused to let me watch it, so it's on my DVR. I caught the first five minutes which looked OK, but as soon as Eric Estrada came on the screen with his bratty daughter (who is sure to be in danger) I turned it off. I hope to have the courage to watch the rest of it some time before June. By the way, I ended up watching the "Scalphunters" and later, the third remake of "The Thing." Anyway, I'll leave it to you guys, should I watch the rest of Chupacabra or erase it? At least on DVR I skip commercials.

Fortunatley, I do not have satellite or cable -- only DVD and BluRay. So I can't watch this arguably best telling of the Alamo story to date. But one thing for sure, Frank Thompson will want to write a book about it. That, I will read.

I saw it. I laughed! I cried! It was better than "Cats". I'm going to watch it again and again.... Well, OK, it wasn't that good. It was bad. But wonderfully, and often intentionally, bad. Erik Estrada plays a DEA agent who's a descendent of Juan Seguin (which they pronounce "Seg-when"), and when they get to the final showdown at the Alamo, there's a tour guide named Crockett who has a coonskin cap that's even stranger looking than Rich's (fortunately, he discards it pretty quickly). There are a number of nice establishing shots of San Antonio, and some really bad greenscreen footage of the shrine, the arcade, the Long Barracks, and Mission Concepcion. But if you take it as it was intended, as a tongue in cheek, sort of 50's style creature feature with echoes of Ed Wood, it's a fair amount of fun. If you take it seriously for one minute, you're going to be upset.

Oh, and the stockade fort that they use for the interior of the Alamo (don't ask, just watch) is actually Fort Langley in British Columbia. Most of the movie was shot in Canada.

Well, all in all, that sounds like quite an Alamo cinema moment, for better or worse. I may have to catch this thing.

Tman56, thank you for your splendid report. I hope your recovery is going well. These kinds of shocks to one's psyche can leave life-long scars. Just look at Jerry Lewis, for example.

David, Thanks for the good wishes. I'm not sure the psychic wound will ever completely heal, but I have some resistance that I built up with years of watching bad horror movies and bad Alamo movies (yes, there really is such a thing as a bad Alamo movie )

Two week later and I still haven't found time ot watch this "flurshlopita" movie. I'm also sitting on four episodes of Sparticus and One Game of Thrones. I'm blaming my procrastination on the baseball season and the NCAA. That's a lame excuse, but it's all I have right now. I mean, how bad can it be? ?

How bad can it be? ? Yesterday, I watched it and it was pretty bad. Thank God for the fast forward command. It's really beyond critique. I mean, there have been hundreda of shlocky science fiction movies where animals terrorize a city. But why pick the Alamo? Please assure me the keepers didn't permit serious filming to go on there. :SPOILER ALERT!!! And then, to simulate the destruction of the beloves shrine to wipe out a few dozen cainine Chupcabras while the rest of San Antonio went about its business is beyond imagination. And then for the DEA to have to rely on local drug gangs when there are 100,000 military personel in the surrounding installations was beyond stupid. Yet, I watched it, while my dear wife cringed. I mean, they traded their assault weapons for vintage flint-locks that mysteriously never needed to be reloaded. The final indigity was escaping through an unknown "Travis Tunnel" which lead them out through a trapdoor on Alamo Street. Didn't they know that most of Alamo street is within the fort's western plaza? I'm sorry I can't go on. How bad can it be? Next time, please send the Chupacabras to Brooklyn where we would know how to handle them. ;D ;D Lou from Long Island

It hasn't reached New Zealand yet, but if it does I won't be able to see it as analogue TV is ending here on April 28th, so I won't be able to watch TV after that, but from the reports in this thread, it doesn't sound like I'll be missing much when the film comes on!
