I was reading George Nelsons book "The Alamo,An Illustrated history"second edition. On page 65 ,the 1848 Everett plat of the Alamo ruins, there are two building in the northeast corner, marked numbers 8 and nine.Could these building be the Reyes house and kitchen or buildings rebuilt on their foundations?I know they seem out of line with the rest of the complex but then again nothing about the Alamo follows a straight line.....bob

I believe the evidence points to those buildings being constructed by the US Army on or near the original site of the Reyes jacal and adjacent kitchen. It was the location of that kitchen (with roof intact) which prevented the construction of an artillery battery on the NE corner of the north wall, and subsequently led to Fortin de Teran being placed in the center of the north wall.

I agree that these were built by the U.S. Army. All indications point to this. Plus, I think you will find that they are quite a bit farther south than the original Reyes structures -- roughly 70 to 100 feet farther south.

A shot from my 3D virtual model to show the Reyes house and Kitchen based which formed the eastern portion of the north wall. The house was a jacal, most likely with its tule roof removed to avoid being set afire by the enemy. Boards might have been laid across to provide a firing scaffold for riflemen. The kitchen to the east was (according to Rick Range) built of adobe and joined the other adobe rooms lining the east wall north of the long barrack.
