P.S. Yuke's homer today broke a 1-1 tie and gave the White Sox a 2-1 win over Texas (and, I believe, a sweep of the series).

Well, at least one "Sox" team is winning.

Being a Ranger fan, the lack luster performances of late concern me. Hopefully the return of the pitching staff will brighten the picture. I feel so sorry for Harrison who pitched a great game and got no support on the offensive side. The big bats are really in a slump for the most part. By the way, if you happen to be a Mavs fan, It appears that Cubin is going to let them fade into obscurity. If I were Dirk, I would be begging to be traded, or retire and take my ball back home.

Okay, the Yankees beat the Red Sox tonight by 2..Each team had 14 hits, Red Sox 8, Yankees 10. Rangers lost to the Twins, not close. Maybe I've said too many times that the Rangers can't have another world series appearance until I can afford to go...which isn't this fall. Hope it's not me.
Very happy about the Nats. I lived in that area, and am an O's fan, but have friends who are fans of the Nats. I thought it would be fun to have a Nat-Ranger World Series, but the Rangers will have to pick up the pace for that to happen. I love ballparks and the game. I'm happy to just sit in a ballpark. If two teams show up to play and one wins, that's icing on an aleady perfect cake. Although if the teams are Boston and Yankees...gotta favor Boston. If its O's and Yankees...gotta favor O's. If it's Rangers and Yankees...gotta favor Rangers. Nats and Yankees...go Nats.
Phillies, I have watched since I first saw them at Camden Yards. Kinda all done with them.
I hope the Nats do the Miracle Mets thing...that would be awesome.

On the hottest day in history, the Yanks and Sox will play a day-night double bill today; any takers on the Sox blowing both ends? And, sad as it makes me to say it, isn't it time to face up to the fact that Beckett's career is over? The more I look at that team the more it looks like they need to do what the Nats have done over the past couple of years; quality rebuilding from the ground up with promising young talent.
As most of you probably know, the Nats will lose Strasburg sometime in September. After Tommy John surgery and missing all of last season, he is limited to 160-170 innings this year. There was quite an uproar from some "fans," who complained that the Nats have a shot at a Series this year and losing Strasburg might kill that. Thomas Boswell (still my favorite BB columnist) put the hose to that yesterday by pointing out that it's incredibly stupid to even question this policy and, secondly, the Nats are not playing for one year; they're building and playing for the future; for the long-term. This season has been a delightful surprise and maybe they will go all the way, but I'd like to see them in contention every year for a while. These owners know what they're doing; some of the "fans" have had too much beer.

It was a nice old fashioned Yankee - Boston slugfest last night that we were lucky to win. I'm writing during the early innings of todays day/night double header that the Yanks are winning 4 - 0 with back to back homers. But Boston will not allow this score to remain, win or lose. What really saddens me is not playing the Sox since April, I've lost track of all the new injury replacements. I only recognize Saltalamaccia, Beckett and Ortiz with Dustin on the bench. All the rest have been off my radar, who the heck are they? I know us New Yorkers will say "we told you so" but I don't think you can blame it all on Valentine. You gotta respect the teams, like the Nats and O's that have the courage and patience to take the time to rebuild their teams. Unfortunately big market teams like the Yanks, Mets, Red Sox and other don't have that luxury. Their fans want it now and take no excuses. Let's hear it for the Nats and cut off beer sales after the 7th inning. Lou from Long Island

One down, one to go; a 6-1 drubbing in game 1.
Nightcap was a colossal mess; Sox emerge with a 9-5 win with 17 hits to 6 for the Yanks, who had an astonishing 4 errors, while the Sox committed 2. Including walks and errors, the Sox put 24 men on base and plated only 9; the Yanks put 12 men on (half as many as Boston), 5 of whom scored. This tells you a lot.
Not pretty and one of those very long double-header days, both sides bloody and exhausted, with neither gaining or losing any ground. Kind of like WWI.
BTW, Yuke accounted for all the runs in Chicgo's 2-0 win over Toronto; his 2-run homer was all the scoring there was. Sounds like he and the White Sox both made a smart move.

Yuke should feel relieved he changed his sox. Yanks v Sox exhausted me and I was only listening to the games.
Nats fans will hopefully realize as awesome as Strasberg has been, the team needs more than one pitcher to carry them through. He is young and the team and he have to make sure he is around for seasons... They must realize keeping him in to ensure they win it all might make the opposite happen; losing the playoffs and losing Strasberg indefinitely.

Also, Strasburg has been less than stellar in his last 3 starts, all of which he's lost. There's also been some speculation that his motion makes him prone to injuries. Yeah, he's still very young and is well worth investing patience with. As I recall, he's in a better spot now than Nolan Ryan was at this stage of his career when he was a Mets reliever.

Double Yawn!! I was up past midnight watching the Yanks and Sox. Lot of scary stuff...like Jeter errors and bullpen anxiety from Robertson and Soriano. Thank God for Andrue Jones. He's still got it. We can all use the rest until Friday. Gotta catch up on this Donovan Book.

I you think that's scary, Lou, imagine how it looks on the Red Sox side.

Well, that's pretty much that! A half-inning romp for the NL. Verlander's shellacking may be the worst I've seen in an All Star Game.

We had a storm here last night. Not a bad one, but we lost power. It happened at about the same time the AL lost power. My son and I missed the game after the 3rd inning...oh wait...no..we didn't...not really a game after that.
