Who the heck are Chemerka and Wiener?? Looking forward to the book anyway... Jim They are pen-names for people who you probably don't want to know. We really hope that people will get something out of this book on different levels. It's a thorough list of all of the Alamo-related music that's been written, performed or recorded, beginning with songs written about Crockett in his own time, right into 2008. So, at a miniumum, it will serve anyone who wants to find or collect Alamo music. But it also serves the more substantive purpose of exploring the content of this music and showing how the Alamo and its heroes have been used in music for various purposes, from war propaganda to comic parodies. There are songs about the siege and battle, of course, and others that focus on Crockett, Bowie, Houston, Juan Seguin, and a surprising number about Santa Anna; there's even one about Moses Rose. Alas, there are few about Alamo commander Travis. All in all, we think the book is both fun and informative and an addition to literature about the Alamo as an influence on popular culture. AW

Thanks Jim; one of us owes the other several beers at Ernie's (I can't remember who owes who, or much else anymore), so that's a great place to fire away. We're looking forward to having the book available in time for next March's HHD and signing lots and lots of copies for everyone.

Congrats guys! So is "Listen to the mockingbird" included in this intriguing work? I understand if it was excluded. The book/ cd sounds like a septimus winner and should sell well.

Thanks RR -- You bet it's in there, along with all other Alamo-related soundtrack recordings. In fact, there's a whole chapter just on movie and TV soundtracks. AW

A note on the CD: Since all of the big name, motion picture songs are commercially available, we did not include them. Included are a representative sample of period tunes and more recent compositions that reflect the book's content.
