I visited Half Price Books last week and discovered a typed transcipt on aging paper of an article by Walter Prescott Webb among some old periodicals. The piece has the overly long title of: Exploits of Texas Rangers, Ben McCulloch, Fighting Man, When the Little Band of Heroes Fought with the Forces of the United States. It appeared in the April 17, 1921 Dallas Morning News with a crude drawing of McCulloch and a couple photographs of mounted rangers. I'm not sure how important this early article is or how much it's worth, but it was a nice find. ;D

Haven't heard of that one. Anything new and unusual in it that hasn't been covered elsewhere?

Nothing unknown or unsual, but it's possibly his first newspaper article after he wrote his 1920 Master's thesis on the rangers.

Anything on the typescript to indicate that it was Webb's own manuscript?

No, but I wish it had his signature.
