The PBS channel has recently begun broadcasting in the UK & some of their documentaries have been excellent, 'Buffalo Bill', 'Horatio's Drive' & 'Prohibition' to name a few. As of yet I have not seen the 'Custer' & 'BTK' episodes and was rather disappointed to read the reviews on them elsewhere on this site. Although I have read fairly extensively on the Old West in general, I had very little knowledge of Kit Carson, I suppose he must have slipped through my net. I was under the impression that he was more of a legend that a man of flesh & blood. I also thought that his adventures took place several decades before they actually did. The PBS documentary on him that I saw this week was a real eye opener. I had no idea that he was active in the ACW! I believed him long dead by that time. I was also amazed to see photographs of the man, again, I thought him long gone before the invention of photography. Just goes to show, eh? You learn something new everyday. I really enjoyed the programme & thought that Carson came across as a man of real integrity. After the general thumbs down on the Custer & the Kid bios, what are folks opinions on this one? I'd really appreciate your comments.

I recall the Carson program being considerably better. If you want to learn more about Carson, read "Blood and Thunder" by Hampton Sides.
