150 years ago, tomorrow morning at 4:30 AM, Edmund Ruffin, pulled a lanyard sending the first shell, of the Civil War, toward Fort Sumter. I've decided that this makes it a prime time to revisit an old friend, Shelby Foote's three volume The Civil War A Narrative. IMO, this is without a doubt the best narrative history of the Civil War. It is an especially well written history.
For those of you who may remember Ken Burns' TV serie's The Civil War, Shelby Foote, was the bearded commentator, that added so much to the series.
