My Rangers are 3-0. Matt Harrison was very good today, limiting Boston to one run in seven innings. I anxiously await Derek Holland's and Alexi Ogando's starts tomorrow and Tuesday against Seattle. These two are key to a successful season, even though Ogando will probably return to his eighth inning role when Tommy Hunter comes off of the DL.

I like Texas a lot -- saw many games while I lived in Euless, just eight miles from the ballpark. Cheered them on except for when they played Boston -- but over the past couple of years Boston always seemed to struggle against the Rangers. I'd be cheering right along with you about the sweep had it not been against my boys from Boston.
This is going to be an interesting week for the Sox, going from near 90-degree Texas heat to the chill of Cleveland before rolling into Boston for it's home opener Friday against the Spankees. If this weekend's series against Texas is any indication, they might wind up being 0 for April.

Orioles are 3-0 and their home opener is tomorrow afternoon versus Detroit. Porcello v. Arrieta. After the Tigers, Baltimore will host the Rangers for three games. It will be interesting to see how they stand after nine games.
Cardinals are already treading water, trying to stay afloat until they get Holliday back, and Albert starts hitting.

At least the Cards are treading. The Sox already drowned.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand, make that 0-5, with the hapless Mat-soo-sucko adding his gallon of gasoline to the fire.

Allen,
This is a new tack taken by the Carmines; usually they wait until September to do the "El foldo," this year they're doing it much earlier. In some respect, this approach is more humanitarian.

It can be, but not always. Recall the 1982 Orioles, who played so badly through August no one was watching anymore. Then, they took off like a house on fire, beat first place Milwaukee 6 times in about 10 days and were tied with them on the final day of the season, which happened to have Milwaukee vs. Baltimore on the schedule that day (the baseball gods set this one up!). Naturally, they blew that game 10-2 and, with no wild card in those days, the Orioles were done. Had they not lost all those games in April, May, June, etc., that last game wouldn't have mattered. But, then, we would have lost one of the most exciting days in baseball that I've seen -- the one game season, as they called it. It was also Earl Weaver's last game, which made the whole day at Memorial Stadium bittersweet.

I know it's too early, and they've let us down so many times, but what the heck, "GO RANGERS".

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand, make that 0-5, with the hapless Mat-soo-sucko adding his gallon of gasoline to the fire. Hey, Allen, C'mon, man. How many teams can boast a perfect record one week into the season? I mean, why should Boston spoil such a well-oiled losing streak with a win? I think it's time I start wearing my Texas Rangers jacket and ballcap. lol Paul

And we are now at 0-6, just in time for tomorrow's Fenway opening. I actually caught the middle innings of this afternoon's game on TV while lunching at a place at Quincy Market. Lester was masterful and overpowering; he had struck out 9 or 10 by the 7th inning and allowed only 2 hits. But the Cleveland pitcher was nearly as good and the Sox couldn't touch him. By time I got home, I read they'd lost again (1-0); the bullpen blew this one -- no doubt the first of many.

If anyone is interested, the highly touted Bryce Harper is making his MiLB debut tonight as the Rome Braves hosts the Hagerstown Suns. You can listen to the game on milb.com. First inning Harper knocked in a run and promptly stole second base. This guy is going to be a huge star in the bigs someday...soon. Right now its 2-0 going to the 5th.

Well, here's a great day in the offing. Not only is it the home opener for the Sox up here in Beantown today, but they are playing the hated Yankees. For this they are sending to the mound that well-worn, tried and true loser, Mr. Lackey. What irony there is in that name. This will not be pretty. The only question is whether Francona will stay awake or again allow the good Lackey to cough up 9 runs before phoning the bull pen, as he did last week. Anyone for 0-7?

It's early days, but thus far, for $15 mil., the Sox have gotten a .152 batting average, no homers and a grand total of 1 RBI out of Crawford. Beltre, last year's run-producer, who they had no use for, is just hitting his stride with Texas. Check back in September.

On the other hand, Becket was magnificent against the Spankees tonight and the Sox beat them 4-0. He allowed 2 hits, no walks, no runs and struck out 10 in 8 innings. And, for the second time in a row, Paplebon closed in the 9th without a ripple. Long way to go, but a nice day.

Beltre had three homers to his credit for Texas, as of yesterday's game, and of course one of those was that grand slam against Boston. Why Boston let him go is beyond me.
However, anytime Boston can take a series against the Yanks, it's a beautiful thing. Paps is looking good, so far. Becket was impressive. We can only hope .......
