There's some new articles on the Alamo fight in History Magazine (The Truth Behind the Legend) and Military History Quarterly (Davy Crockett's Mysterious Death at the Alamo) that are interesting, but w/ no new information. There are also good pieces on the fight at Bunker Hill and Italian King Umberto's fatal 1900 assassination. As I've said before I have an ancestor that was wounded at Bunker Hill and I own a rare 12 X 18 photo of King Umberto from the 1890s.

The current issue of True West has a couple of good articles on Crockett for his upcoming birthday on Aug. 17. The main one is Happy 225th Birthday, Davy Crockett by Johnny Boggs and the second one is really just a review of Michael Wallis' new bio on Crockett by Doug Brode. There is also a great piece on that old desert fox Geronimo by Paul Hutton.

Does anyone have a copy, that they are willing to share, of Jackson Burke's article " The Secret of the Alamo" that appeared in Man's Illustrated magazine during the 1950's. It concerns a supposed mutiny in the Alamo. Bill Groneman quotes part of it in his Eyewitness to the Alamo. I know the article is pure junk, but I would still like a complete copy for my files. Thanks. Ken Mahoney
