skr, There is a coincidence about the Yellow Rose of Texas. The significance of a coincidence lies in the eyes of the beholder. I will show my hand this year. Some will find the coincidence significant; some will not. Tim

I'm sorry for the necro-bump, but I just read Lutzwiller's argument and come away convinced that there actually was a woman in Santa Anna's tent when the Texians attacked at San Jacinto. I see no reason why Bollaert would have made up the story in his diary and, given his credentials, don't believe he would have. I can see reasons why Santa Anna might have lied when he said he was under asleep under a tree: Lutzwiller's Thesis

This thesis should be read by all. There is a note in the Bollaert manuscript that Gen. Sam Houston provided the information about the role of the woman in the battle to its author. Tim

And I can't for the life of me figure out why Bollaert would fabricate that story while writing to himself, in his own diary. What would be the motive? He would know for sure that it would be untrue. So why take the time to write it were it not true?

Jim also wrote a parody thesis about the Yellow Rose. It uses all the lies writers have written about her to write a parody history. I have not read the parody but Jim asserts that it is better than his authentic thesis. I am sorry that I am still not able to reveal the striking coincidence yet, but it awaits my need for better inter-library loan services. I will give you a hint, however. Who was the only man able to travel between the Mexican and Texan lines, and what does his name have to do with the Yellow Rose of Texas? Tim
