Sorry to hear of his passing. He was a colorful guy and a heck of a manager. I'd forgotten he is the only manger with World Series winners in both leagues. Was at the helm for the 1975 classic series (the Carlton Fisk home run, etc.) and Kirk Gibson's barely-able-to-walk-off homer in 1984. RIP. www.nytimes.com/2010/11/05/sports/baseball/05anderson.html?hp

Wow, how did I miss that? Yes, Sparky was one of the great ones. They don't make 'em like that any more.

I hadn't heard he died, but I did see in the paper that he was ailing with complications of dementia. Imagine, such a smart guy, suffering from dementia, and he wasn't even that old. But Kirk Gibson, while he may have played primarily for the Tigers, hit his home run in 1988 while playing for the Dodgers, didn't he? Jesse

Whoops! You are RIGHT, Jesse! My bad -- really bad! Should have remembered that one! That was an enjoyable series where the Dodgers turned it around and Mickey Hatcher sparked the team to beat Oakland! But, Sparky is the only guy to manage series winners in both leagues!
